Karma Raj Maha Vihar

Starting in 1996, His Holiness Buddha Maitreya and the Church of Shambhala provided monthly sponsorship to the Monastery initially focusing on providing food, water and sanitary conditions for the entire monastery as well as clothing and education to the younger monks (at this time there were 13 Monks under 10 years old who were suffering from near constant ill health).

During 1998, Buddha Maitreya established monthly salary supplements for the cook and the teacher of the young Monks. The young monks were all provided with new clothes, bedding and a weekly laundry service established for them.

Monthly food grants were again increased to an average of $250/month and a homeopathic clinic was set up. The clinic treated monks and lamas and also H.H. Gyalwa Jampa The Buddha Maitreya provided them with alternative medical services as necessary. Karma Raj Maha Vihar Clinic was established in 1999 and the homeopathic doctor, Dr. Rajesh Pradhanang was hired.

Specific rooms were targeted for repairs including mould and damp treatments, cleaning projects were expanded improving the toilet and shower facilities plus repainting and cleaning work for the Monastery as a whole.

Sponsorship included continuing refurbishment of the Monastery kitchen and food storage area. The smoky wood burning kitchen left was repainted and rebuilt with stoves using gas cylinders, along with clean food preparation surfaces. There was only one old Nepali style toilet downstairs, and no running water A western style toilet was provided on the upper level for the oldest lama of the monastery Lama Tondo.

Sabchu Rinpoche born in 1983 and as a newborn infant, recognized by Sharmar Rinpoche as the 5th Sabchu Rinpoche presently oversees the Monastery.
