Pharping

Lhama Retreats

Since 1994, Buddha Maitreya has supported a group of between 8 and 13 Tibetan Refugee Nuns at a nunnery at the sacred pilgrimage site of Pharping in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

In 1996, the nuns were given regular monthly sponsorship during the period of their 3 year, 3 month and 3 day Lama retreat by the Holy Meditation Cave of Guru Rinpoche at Pharpingl. Buddha Maitreya also supported the nuns with a new stove, refrigerator, clean water deliveries, painting their retreat house and a visit by a Tibetan doctor for diagnosis and medical treatments. One of the nuns received new glasses and two traveled to visit a doctor in Kathmandu for better treatment.

In 1997, the Ani’s retreat house was refurbished after monsoon rains destroyed one of the walls and damaged the roof. A toilet was installed so that the nuns did not have to use the surrounding fields. Medical needs were covered and kitchen utensils and food provided to help maintain the health and wellbeing of the nuns. Monthly sponsorship was increased through 1998 to include additional support for food and electric bills.

The nuns retreat finished during 1998, and several of the nuns went on to stay at Buddha Maitreya’s Sanatan Dharma Center near Boudha Stupa until they had decided their next step. The Anis who today look well and in good health, always come to welcome His Holiness Buddha Maitreya every time he gives a dharshan in Kathmandu, Nepal.
